How to Set Up MCP with Claude Desktop for FollowUpAce

This guide walks you through the quick setup process to connect FollowUpAce with Claude Desktop using MCP (Model Context Protocol).

Prerequisites

  • Pro License: MCP access requires an active FollowUpAce Pro subscription
  • Claude Desktop: Download from claude.ai/desktop

Step 1: Get Your FollowUpBoss API Key

  1. Open FollowUpBoss and go to Settings → API Keys
  2. Choose your API key type:
  • Person-Level API Key: Only access contacts you personally manage (more secure, limited scope)
  • Account-Level API Key: Access all contacts in your brokerage/team (full data access)
  1. Create a new API key if needed or use an existing one
  2. Copy the key to use in the next steps

Step 2: Access the Ace Embedded App

  1. Navigate to any person page in FollowUpBoss to access the Ace embed
  2. Look for the Ace interface in your person view inbox
  3. Click the gear icon in the top right corner of the Ace interface

Step 3: Generate Your MCP Extension File

  1. Scroll down until you see the MCP Server section
  2. Paste your API key into the designated field
  3. Click "Download Extension" to generate a .dxt file customized for your account
  4. Save the file to your computer

Step 4: Install in Claude Desktop

You have two options for installation:

Option A: Direct File Installation (Recommended)

  1. Double-click the .dxt file you downloaded
  2. Claude Desktop will open automatically and show extension details
  3. Click "Install" to add FollowUpAce to Claude
  4. Restart Claude Desktop to activate the integration

Option B: Manual Installation

  1. Open Claude Desktop
  2. Go to Settings (Cmd/Ctrl + ,)
  3. Click "Extensions" in the sidebar
  4. Drag and drop the .dxt file into the extensions area
  5. Restart Claude Desktop

Step 5: Verify Installation

  1. Open a new conversation in Claude Desktop
  2. Look for the FollowUpAce tools - you should see 72+ CRM tools available
  3. Test with a simple command like: "Show me my recent contacts"

Troubleshooting

No tools showing in Claude?
  • Wait 30 seconds and restart Claude Desktop
  • Check that you have an active Pro license
  • Verify your API key is correct
Authentication errors?
  • Ensure your FollowUpBoss API key has proper permissions
  • Try regenerating the extension file with a fresh API key
Connection issues?
  • Check your internet connection
  • Verify Claude Desktop is updated to the latest version
